To be fair, purple always felt like it was pointless color. As drop, it was only good for potential +5 armor upgrades, pointless merch food otherwise.
Also, crafter stuff being either blue or gold, but not inbetween so this could is neat change to denote expected rarity.
I am all for designating "middle-end" stuff with purple color.
In fact, I would humbly suggest that every collector and crafter weapon that is max would be made purple, with only hom-able items staying gold.

I use purple items all the time, idgas about the color of the text. Only thing that matters is the stats and the looks.

Me too. Reminds me of Mortal Kombat. <3
Edit: Just googled it and found out it was Kitana who wielded the fans.

imo they did not make the items purple to prevent qq'ing from high end traders.
Why I think so? because none of the items would've caused that being gold. The jitte skin is now as daggers and not sword, so no effect on the uninscr jitte at all. Gold inscr plat staves already exist and arent worth anything so why would a new source of gold inscr plat staves bother the prices of the uninscr ones. And finally the paper fans are wands and not offhands, so no problem either.
If you ask me Anet just made em purple to make clear these weapons are not for HoM. So the whining about 'anet protecting a minority of high end traders' is bullshit.

That makes sense.
Perhaps we'll see weapons at the very end of WoC Part III that are specifically designed for the HoM.

Or it gives you more oppetunities for items for the HoM. Then you dont have to repeat content on other characters to be fill it up. Screw getting another oppressor weapon when you can tget the ministry one by just playing the game (though i do have most of the weapons and no one is forcing me to get them).

Most of the items were already available but not as inscribable items. The daggers are actually two swords (something they have been doing since WiK and the Canthan Blade) and the focus is a single dagger with the wand being a previous offhand. Recycled skins to add a little more reward for earlier content while saving the new skins for the later chapters I'm guessing (Imperial Weapons).

I don't understand your point? Are you saying inscribable versions of those skins exist? I don't think anyone was claiming that no previously Factions/Prophecies exclusive weapon was available with an inscription. The point people are making is that Factions and Prophecies drops are almost unanimously garbage and weapon skins from those campaigns are notoriously difficult to obtain by playing the game, especially when they don't drop from the elite chest or the zaishen chest.
Inscriptions are an infinitely better example of strictly superior game design: even those blue weapons you get can be used with max stats making more of your weapon drops viable choices for equipment. Almost everything that drops in Prophecies and Factions is striclty inferior than collector weapons, preventing players from accessing so many skins in the game.
It makes no sense to create a wide variety of weapons and skins but create a system which prevent people from accessing the vast majority of them with good stats. This is why green weapons were so popular prior to Nightfall - because other weapons were too difficult and rare to obtain with good stats on them.
Do I think the vast majority of the weapons in the game should be available to the majority of players the way Nightfall and EotN weapons are? Of course I do. The loot system in Guild Wars was terrible prior to Nightfall (look at all the garbage caster gear you find). The variety of skins used by players was miniscule compared to the number of skins available in the game.
Inscriptions are better game design for the vast majority of people. The old school system was better for people who play for hours on end grinding every last corner of the game or repetitively farming the same things over and over again looking for something to fill their time. I'd far rather cater to people playing the game and wanting to access a certain skin rather than people simply filling their inventories with rare crap because they have nothing else to do.
The inscribable purple weapons are a nice addition to Factions.

Oh man, so much this. I love fans - I collect them in real life, and I love games where they are used as weapons (whenever I play AC:Brotherhood online, I'm the Courtesan). Paper fan is one of my favorite offhands in GW.
So I was very happy to see fan-wands added (who gives an eff if they're purple, they work just as well as golds), and I'll be getting them for at least my Mesmer and Ritualist. As well as tracking down fan off-hands for them. And I really, really wish they had added dual-fans as daggers because damnit that would be awesome.

Assuming you did get a rare drop while out 'playing the game' you could really cash in but since you did bring up greens...what thrill is there now when they routinely sell 5k or less? In the good old days a little bit of luck in an explorable could net you a lot of cash. Sorrow's Furnace was almost entirely based on this notion with groups forming specifically for that purpose and now look at it. It is a good thing to have rare items to work towards as goals in a game.
As for skin rarity on this trader, well...that part is a bit silly. What skins he has available would never be confused for their non-inscribable counterparts. Nevermind the naming conventions I'm talking strictly in function...dual Jittes don't exist, or fan wands, or dagger focii. Nothing would have really been harmed here in making these gold but at least they attempted to tread lightly on a very robust trading market.

The imperial weapons will probably be gold and most likely require more commendations, making them 'better' than the purple purity weapons. This is my speculation anyways as to why they are purple. But, does the colour of the text really mean that much?

As someone with 50/50 HoM, I don't care at all if Imperial weapons can be added. However, I can see the line of logic that Tormented is from Nightfall, Destroyer from Eye of the North, Oppressor from Tyria, so Cantha should get some love.
Like I said, not a darn bit of difference to me.
